He can’t understand why his comrades feel the need to find a girl and settle down when the Army career latter has so many steps to climb. Up, up, up; that’s where he’s looking – and that’s the reason, too, why he stumbles over the only thing that maybe can change his view on life forever: Tessa.
No job. No plan. An open future. That’s how Tessa Connor likes to see her life as she starts a trip to see some friends half way across the world. And Jazz will be her first step to the new Tessa. Together they need to find a way to make A and B come together with an ocean between them that threatens to drown everything – maybe even their love.

Once upon a time there was a young girl with her head full of dreams and her heart full of stories. Her parents, though not a unit, always supported her and told her more stories, encouraging her to become what she wanted to be. The problem was, young Sam didn't know what she wanted to be, so after getting her A-levels she started studying Computer Science and Media. After not even one year she realized it wasn't what her heart wanted, and so she stopped, staying home and trying to find her purpose in life. Through some detours she landed an internship and eventually an apprenticeship in a company that sells cell phones. Not a dreamy career, but hey. Today she's doing an accounting job from nine-to-five, which mainly consists of daydreaming and scribbling notes wherever she can.
All through that time little Sam never once lost the stories in her heart, writing a few little of them here and there, writing for and with her best friend, who always told her to take that last step. Only when a certain twin-couple entered her mind, bothering her with ideas and talking to her nonstop did she start to write down their story - getting as far as thinking she could finish it. Through the help of some author friends, and the encouragement of earlier mentioned best friend, little Sam, now not so little anymore and in her twenty-seventh year,  decided to try her luck as an Indie author. She finished the story of the first twin, Jaden, and realized she couldn't ever stop. So, it is only after five that the real Sam comes out. The one that hungers for love, romance, some blood, a good story, and, at the end of the day, a nice hot cup of Chai Tea Latte.
And if the boys are still talking to her, she'll write happily ever after.

Blog Tour & Book Review - Burning Barriers by Sara Shirley

BURNING BARRIERS
Author: Sara Shirley
Series: Barriers Series Book #2.5
Genre: Contemporary Romance
~ SYNOPSIS ~
Lucy
We were high school prom king and queen.

He moved on. I moved east.

Seven years ago, I left Breckenridge, Colorado, hoping never to return.

All it took was one horrific night not too long ago to change everything.

Now, I’m back in Breckenridge to recover from a recent attack that nearly took my life as well as my best friend’s, and there is one person I hope I don’t run into.

His name is Jake Galloway.

My old boyfriend and my first true love.

I’ve never told anyone about him for fear of my deepest feelings resurfacing.

I’m more afraid of what will happen to me should my path cross with Jake’s again. I know memories of what we once had will hurt me more than anything I’ve recently gone through.

He’ll own my heart and my body all over again.

Jake
She took off running when I confessed I loved her but couldn’t give her the committed relationship she wanted. I needed to live my college years and party it up with lots of girls and booze.

Sex with Lucy Wyatt was an experience in and of itself. I thought I was doing right by moving on from her. I thought there was more out there than just Lucy, even if we burned for each other like a raging wildfire.

I haven’t seen her since the night she took off from my house. Little did I know life would throw me a curveball once I got to college.

I still screw women and drink all night long, but that has to do with the direction my life went seven years ago. It has nothing to do with college, simply because I never made it past my first week once classes began.

I lost Lucy. I lost out on the college experience. And, I lost my father all in the course of a few short months.

Now, Lucy’s back, and I want her more than ever. The minute my eyes trailed on her driving down the street, my desire for her burned more than ever. It’s as though seven years apart never happened. It’s just this time I’m not sure I can have her anymore.

Can old flames still burn? Lucy and Jake are about to find out.

~My Review ~
I was given a copy of Burning Barriers in exchange for my honest review for the blog tour.

Burning Barriers is a short read but yet still exciting to read. It keeps you hooked wanting more. At the last chapter you will be like oh no she didn't but at the end of the Epilogue you will be going AHHHHHH.....

"they say time heals all wounds, and right now, time with just Lucy and me is absolutely proving that statement"

So this is the story of Lucy and her high school sweetheart Jake who broke her heart. After that Lucy had endless meaningless relationships and the same goes for Jake. Now if you read Hidden Barriers you would know what happened to Lucy. After the "indecent" that's what we will call it - Lucy's parents convinced her to come back home for  a few weeks to recover.

"Lucy, I love you more than my own life. Stay with me, please. Choose me this time."

Going back home Lucy new that it is inevitable that she will run in to the one person she doesn't want too. Soon old feeling return and it seems like she and Jake wasn't apart for 7 years at all.

"I guess I'm not your everything. Am I, Jake"

Jake knew that Lucy will return back home to her friends but he never expected her to actually up and leave like the way she did and take him by surprise. Jake is torn apart and doesn't truly know if he should go after her or stay where his mom needs him.

Now don't go getting your panties in a twist. Burning Barriers have a happy ending trust me.....

Burning Barriers is a good to the soul love story that will make you believe when you let your love go it will return back to you.

I give Burning Barriers 4 Burning Stars

~ ABOUT THE AUTHOR ~
Sara Shirley

I think my love for books started when I was a teenager on summer vacations reading Mary Higgins Clark novels. As I grew older that turned into reading romance novels. Now, that's turned into me writing three romance novels and another on the way in the series.

In college I actually majored in Geography and concentrated in Travel & Tourism. I still love to travel constantly, but now find myself working in the world of Finance during the day and writing romance novels at night.

I was born and raised just north of Boston and currently live with my husband and cat. When I'm not running a mile a minute with work and books you can find me at a local wine tasting or out with friends at the pub doing shots of Patron. I have a weak spot for candy, Ghirardelli chocolate to be exact. I am addicted to the three "C"s. Coffee, Cheese and Carbs. I grew up with an Italian family and giving those up will never be an option.

I typically have a dirty mind and zero filter between my head and my mouth. If you are around me...good luck. I'm obsessed with hockey, Oregon football, beaches, Supernatural, Friends and stupid comedy movies. I've been called a "tall drink of water" due to my height and love for platform heels. Chances are you will not miss me if we are ever in the same room. Just look for the chick laughing hysterically, wearing heels and holding a glass of wine in her hand. That will be me.

Matt laughed and picked up his glass to finish off his tea, but his laughter stopped as quickly as it started. His glare focused abruptly on the café entrance. Halle turned to glance over her shoulder at a group of guys she recognized from school, mostly football players. One stood out. That explained it.

Brandt Lucas.

Even now, almost two years later, Halle nor Jenna knew what had gone down between the two. Matt and Brandt had been through a few run-ins since sophomore year. The consensus was it had started over a girl, but there was never any solid proof and Matt would never talk about it. The most Halle had ever gotten out of him was a grunt or a brush off of the subject. She stopped trying about halfway through junior year.

“Boys.” Jenna scoffed in Halle’s direction, knowing Matt wasn’t paying attention to anything she said at the moment. Halle just rolled her eyes slightly and shook her head. There would be no use in even trying to talk to Matt for a good fifteen minutes.

Matt motioned to get the waitress’ attention and requested the check.
“I think it’s time for that swim.” His voice was a low growl. If simply glaring in the direction of Brandt Lucas would have laid him out on the floor, people would have been splashing cold water on his face. “I need to cool off.”

Matt was already standing by his chair when the waitress brought the check. He handed her several bills, told her to keep the change, then headed for the stairs. Halle and Jenna never said a word. They knew this mood. It was not a talking mood.

Thinking ahead, Jenna was clever enough to make sure she was a buffer between Matt and Brandt as they headed for the exit.

Aedan and Sapphira followed.

“I’ll meet you back at the safe house. I have a stop to make.” Sapphira didn’t allow Aedan time to ask questions. She traced out of the café.
Matt and Jenna were through the front door when Halle stopped dead still, a few feet short of the door. Ice trailed down her spine and a faint, sinister voice spilled through the air. “She’s the one.” Her gaze drifted back around the café, slowly and methodically. Surely she wasn’t the only one who heard that?

She wasn’t.

Aedan didn’t recognize the voice he heard, but he did recognize the distinctive bile that emanated from it. His quick, desperate check of the surroundings tried to pinpoint the origin. No luck. It was a familiar feeling he wished wasn’t so familiar.

He watched as Halle’s aura changed to a deep shade of orange. Fear. Was Sapphira right? Had she heard it too? He leaned close to her and whispered into her thoughts. “Keep walking. Don’t look back.”

She did…

He was standing entirely too close. Halle could feel the electricity dance across her skin. Every instinct in her wanted to take a step back; she took one forward instead.

“You. Obviously.” Her heart skidded and scrambled inside her chest.

He lingered a few moments, evaluating her reaction, savoring her indignation. The quickening of her pulse brought a smile to his face, one that held a hint of masculine satisfaction. He took another step closer. “Well, Halle, you could always stop dreaming about me, you know.”

Her name sounded different on his tongue. She bit down on her lower lip, held her breath, and waited. When he took another step, closing what was left of the gap between them, she narrowed her eyes and peered up at him. He was close enough that she felt the warmth of his shallow breathing on her skin.

“I can’t.” She whispered.

Aedan felt a binding sense of truth in her words. He searched her eyes. What he saw, he knew would haunt his soul forever. He pulled back, his breath seesawing in his chest.

The hint of confusion in his blue gaze compelled her to explain. “I don’t have any control over my dreams.” She said softly. “They just take over.”

Her stare fell to the floor. “They even seem to be taking over my reality too.”

Aedan had suspected that after the incident in the park. He had no way of knowing how often it happened, but he had seen enough of Halle’s dreams to know she might not survive the ending that never arrived in some of them. She lifted her gaze to meet his, blinking back tears. At that moment, it no longer mattered whose side she was on. The idea of a world without her wasn’t a possibility he was willing to allow....

Release day Blitz - A Cold Legacy by Megan Shepherd

Title: A COLD LEGACY
Author: Megan Shepherd
Pub. Date: January 27, 2015
Publisher: Balzer+Bray/HarperCollins
Pages: 400

After killing the men who tried to steal her father’s research, Juliet—along with Montgomery, Lucy, Balthazar, and a deathly ill Edward—has escaped to a remote estate on the Scottish moors. Owned by the enigmatic Elizabeth von Stein, the mansion is full of mysteries and unexplained oddities: dead bodies in the basement, secret passages, and fortune-tellers who seem to know Juliet’s secrets. Though it appears to be a safe haven, Juliet fears new dangers may be present within the manor’s own walls.

Then Juliet uncovers the truth about the manor’s long history of scientific experimentation—and her own intended role in it—forcing her to determine where the line falls between right and wrong, life and death, magic and science, and promises and secrets. And she must decide if she’ll follow her father’s dark footsteps or her mother’s tragic ones, or whether she’ll make her own.

With inspiration from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, this breathless conclusion to the Madman’s Daughter trilogy is about the things we’ll sacrifice to save those we love—even our own humanity.

A COLD LEGACY excerpt
p.21-24

Montgomery stopped the horses outside a tavern. He came to the carriage door, opening it just a crack to keep the rain from drenching us. “I’m going to ask directions. We can’t be far now.”

We watched him saunter over the muddy street as though he didn’t even feel the bite of freezing rain. A face appeared in the tavern window. The door opened and he spoke to a woman in a wool dress for a few moments, then stomped back through the mud. “This village is called Quick,” he told us. “The manor’s only five miles from here.”

“Did you hear that?” Lucy murmured to Edward, still stroking his hair. “We’re almost there. Just hold on. Everything will be all right once we arrive.”

Montgomery’s eyes shifted to me. Neither of us wanted to remind Lucy that the prospect of Edward’s fever breaking—and the Beast’s reappearance—was almost more frightening than the fever itself. Delirious, he was less of a threat.

“Let’s go then,” I whispered to Montgomery. “And quickly.”

He closed the door and in another moment we were moving again, passing through the rest of Quick. Then all too soon the village was nothing but fading lights. The storm grew and the road became rougher, and all the while Edward’s eyes rolled back and forth beneath shuttered lids.

Thunder struck close by, and Lucy shrieked. Montgomery whipped the horses harder, pulling us along the uneven road impossibly fast, trying to outrun the storm. I twisted in the seat to look out the back window at the pelting rain. A stone fence ran alongside us.

“We must be getting close,” I said.

“Not soon enough,” Lucy breathed. “We’re going to crash if he keeps driving like this!”

The road widened, straightening, letting us travel even faster. Lightning struck close by, blinding me. The horses bolted. Lucy screamed and covered her eyes, but I couldn’t tear mine away. The lightning had struck an enormous oak tree, twisted from centuries of wind. The oak took flame, blazing despite the rain. A smoking gash ran down the trunk—the lightning’s death mark. I watched until the rain put out most of the flames, but it still smoldered, billowing hot ash into the night.

The horses pawed the earth, and I grabbed the window to steady myself. At this wild speed, just hitting a single rock at the wrong angle would send the carriage shattering to the ground. It was madness to go so fast. Couldn’t Montgomery calm the horses?

Just when I feared the carriage would careen out of control, it stopped short, throwing me against the opposite wall. I tangled in Lucy’s limbs as the chains around Edward’s body clinked. Balthazar grunted, jerking awake at last. We scrambled in the bottom of the carriage until the door flew open.
Montgomery stood in the pelting rain. I feared he’d say we’d broken another strut or the horses had gone lame or we’d have to spend the night in the harsh storm.

But then I saw the lights behind him, and the night took shape into a turreted stone manor with bright lamps blazing and gargoyles on the roof vomiting rain into a stone courtyard.

Montgomery’s eyes met mine beneath the low brim of his hat.

“We’ve arrived,” he said.

About Megan:

Hello!

I’ve been many things, like a professional exchange student, park ranger in Montana, and LOST enthusiast, but what I am now is a writer.

I think it’s fair to say I was born into it. I grew up in the mountains of North Carolina, raised behind the counter of my parents’ independent bookstore, Highland Books in Brevard. Ah, so many free books. But I never thought being a writer could be a real career. After college I thought I’d end up as a foreign service officer somewhere dashing and exotic, like Canada. I studied French, Spanish, German, and Russian and still speak a few of those. Then I joined the Peace Corps and spent two years in Senegal, where I learned a few more languages I’ll never speak again and lived in a mud hut with no electricity or running water. You can probably imagine how that experience went, but if you’re curious, here are the dirty details

It wasn't until a chance aquaintance read something I wrote and said, "have you ever considered being a writer?" that something clicked and I realized it was possible. My husband encouraged me, and I quickly fell head-over-heels in love with writing and children's literature in particular. I started out writing articles, which have appeared in Faces, Appleseeds, and Calliope magazines, and stories for younger children. I soon realized I wasn’t sweet enough to write fiction for that age and found myself writing young adult literature instead, which doesn’t require nearly as many tender moments and includes a lot more cursing.

When I'm not writing, I can usually be found horseback riding, day dreaming at coffee shops, or hiking in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina. I love to hear from readers, so please drop me a line!

I am represented by Josh Adams of Adams Literary.

The Guest Post

SOME RULES OF THE ROAD

Like Lucy Sommersworth, the heroine of Love, Lucy, my parents gave me the gift of a lifetime: a backpacking trip to Europe. I was a bit older than Lucy—22, and just out of college—but when I arrived in Milan, Italy with a Eurail pass, a copy of Let’s Go: Europe, and a seventy-pound backpack I could barely lift, I was a wee bit terrified. Like Lucy, I spoke only a little bit of Italian, just barely enough to get by, and I wasn’t particularly good at reading maps or train schedules. Unlike Lucy, I was travelling solo.

Luckily, my journey began with training wheels. I’d just taken a college Italian class, and my professor had offered a safe crash pad for the first few days of my trip—in her family home in the Alps. Less luckily, when I reached Malpensa airport, nobody was there to pick me up. Giddy with excitement and jet lag, I wandered around the airport, eavesdropping on Italians as they hugged each other hello and goodbye, and had noisy arguments. I’d never felt more alone in my life. Where would I sleep that night if my ride didn’t show up?

Luckily, my professor’s brother arrived at last to whisk me away to the family home in Domodossola. The extended family welcomed and fed me, gave me tours of their city with its charming medieval center, helped me practice my Italian, and, when the time was right, brought me to the train station where my solo travels began for real. It was time to take off the training wheels.

If I’d felt alone back in the airport, I was even more so on that train to Verona, a city where I didn’t know a soul. In those pre-internet days, I could disappear into thin air and nobody would even notice I was gone. The thought was chilling, but oddly exciting.

By nightfall, I’d made it to Verona. I’d figured out the public transportation, found a youth hostel, and booked myself a bed. Best of all, I had introduced myself to a handful of other backpackers. We hung out together in the hostel’s common area, sharing bread and cheese, exchanging stories, discussing the rules of the road—those bits of practical wisdom our travels were teaching us. Here are a few.

Time passes differently on the road.  Spend a few very intense hours seeing the sites with strangers and by the end of the day, those strangers have become a part of your story. Years later you’ll see their faces in your photo album and still remember stray details of the adventures you shared together, even if you can’t quite recall their names.

Spontaneity is key.  There are few things as magical as showing up at a train station with no idea where you’re headed next, picking a random train, and hopping on.

Janis Joplin said it best: Freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose.  When you’re carrying all your possessions on your back in a city where you don’t know a soul, you’re absolutely free. You can go anywhere, do anything. That freedom has its lonely moments—but it can be the doorway to all kinds of adventures.

Embrace misadventure.  As carefully as you plan there will be crazy mistakes: wrong turns, slept-through train stops, multilingual misunderstandings, and all kinds of other blunders—and these will make the best stories. My misadventures are some of my favorite memories. The time I missed curfew and had to climb into my hostel through a second-story window. The morning when, hanging out my recently washed clothes to dry, I dropped my wet underthings out the window, onto a stranger’s head. The night when, with no room to stay in, I slept on Venice’s train station steps with about a hundred other backpackers, the stars above us and the Grand Canal stretched out before us.

Would I trade that last memory for a safe, comfy night in an actual bed?  Not on your life.

SECRETS OF WHITESTONE MANOR
Author: Brittany Jo James
Series: The Winters Family Series, Book #1
Genre: Young Adult Romance | Paranormal Romance
~ SYNOPSIS ~
Some secrets are too dark to ever be brought into the light.

At least mine are.

My name is Orson Winters, and you already know too much for me to let you walk away.

A decade has passed since my parents were killed, forcing my younger siblings and me to move in with our estranged uncle. Whitestone Manor in all its grandeur was overwhelming enough. Then, we learned the family secret.

There’s darkness in the world no one, besides a handful of fighting families, even knows exists. The Winters family is the most acclaimed of them all. However, power isn’t always pleasurable, especially considering that it’s my responsibility to keep my reckless brothers and sister from jeopardizing us all.

When an old enemy emerges from the shadows, Uncle Sebastian calls in another fighting family to assist. I didn’t need their help. I could independently protect my siblings and the rest of the world from danger. That was, until I met Lilith Shaw. Now I’m not even sure that I can protect myself.

I can’t focus on that, though.
